The whole
road network of the island is perfectly organized
and the transportation from the city of Herakleion
and throughout the whole Crete to Agios Nikolaos,
is in a frequent basis. By airplane Agios Nikolaos
is connected with the rest of Greece and the
rest of the world, through the international
airport "Nikos Kazantzakis" in Herakleion.
The prefecture of Lassithi has its own Shipping
Company named LANE. Its ship "Vincent Cornaros"
connects the ports of Agios Nikolaos, Siteia
with Peiraias and other island of the Aegean.
Its quite easy to get
to Agios Nikolaos which is approximately an
hour away from Herakleion (60 kilometers), an
hour and a half from Siteia (70 kilometres)
and approximately 45 minutes from Ierapetra
(36 kilometres).
Agios Nikolaos has no
airport but as mentioned it takes less than
an hour to get to the airport in Herakleion.
There are ships going to Peiraia (Athens) and
during the summer ships going to the island
of Rhodes. There is also a way to travel from
Agios Nikolaos to the Cyclades, to the island
of Kasos, Karpathos and Ko.
