Every year, nine beaches
in the are of Elounda are awarded with the blue
flag of the European Union, for its’ crystal
clear waters. Next to the port lies the Municipal
beach, a large organized beach, ideal for water
sports. It is surrounded with restaurants (tavernas)
and coffee shops and is considered an attraction
for numerous tourists every year.
On the east side of Skisma,
one can discover the blue flag awarded beaches
of Chiona and Poros. Two more rocky beaches
with crystal clear waters can be found in the
village of Plaka and in Agia Marina.
Close to the church of
Agios Loukas lies one more beach. That’s where
you can park your vehicle and walk down the
path that leads you on the beach of Kolokitha
with its magnificent green-blue waters.
